  1. 21. Fish Community Structure and the Role of Non-Indigenous Species Associated to Seagrass Ecosystems of Eastern Mediterranean

    Författare :Stefan Kalogirou; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Temporal and spatial variation in density, biomass and body size of littoral fish species associated with near shore Posidonia oceanica meadows were studied throughout an annual cycle in an area of eastern Mediterranean. Approximately 109350 littoral fish were collected, belonging to 34 families and 88 species. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Managing green infrastructures : trophic interactions in anthropogenic and natural ecosystems

    Författare :Michael Manton; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The term green infrastructure addresses the spatial structure of anthropogenic, semi-natural and natural areas, as well as other environmental features which enable society to benefit from ecosystems’ multiple services. Focusing on two green infrastructures, anthropogenic wet meadows and natural forest successions, this thesis applies a macro-ecological approach based on comparisons of multiple landscapes as complex social-ecological systems. 3. 23. Humans and Seagrasses in East Africa : A social-ecological systems approach

    Författare :Maricela de la Torre-Castro; Nils Kautsky; Carl Folke; Patrik Rönnbäck; Edward H. Allison; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :seagrasses; social-ecological systems; institutions; seaweed farming; artisanal fisheries; common-pool resources; natural resource management; Zanzibar; Tanzania; East Africa; Western Indian Ocean;

    Sammanfattning : The present study is one of the first attempts to analyze the societal importance of seagrasses (marine flowering plants) from a Natural Resource Management perspective, using a social-ecological systems (SES) approach. The interdisciplinary study takes place in East Africa (Western Indian Ocean, WIO) and includes in-depth studies in Chwaka Bay, Zanzibar, Tanzania. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Habitat selection, nest predation and conservation biology in a Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa) population

    Författare :Tomas Johansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Black-tailed godwit; Limosa limosa; nest site selection; nest predation; philopatry; risk analysis; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; populationsbiologi; Population Biology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on a black-tailed godwit (Limosa limosa) population, consisting of 35-40 pairs, that breeds on a grazed shore meadow on SE Gotland, Sweden. The small size of the population makes it more prone to extinction due to chance events, than a larger population.The godwits showed microhabitat preferences when choosing nest sites. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Pattern and process in Alpine communities of the Northwestern Caucasus

    Författare :Galina A. Pokarzhevskaya; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; biodiversity; life forms; life-history strategy; microtopography; snowbedcommunities; snow melting gradient; tussock; vegetative mobility; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : Patterns in vegetation reflect certain processes affecting plant communities. The present work aims at describing patterns and revealing mechanisms operating in alpine vegetation belonging to four vegetation types: alpine lichen heaths, Festuca varia grasslands, Geranium-Hedysarum meadows and snowbed communities.
