6. Flow over rough surfaces, and conjugate heat transfer, in engineering applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on two important topics in the field of fluid mechanics and heat transfer that were treated separately. On the one hand, the flow over rough surfaces, which is not yet completely understood, despite of the fact that it has an important implication in many engineering applications, especially in the naval industry for ships and boats because the friction drag caused by fouling, antifouling coatings and roughness in general impacts the fuel consumption and toxic emissions to the atmosphere. 7. A Generic Model for Simulation of the Energy Performance of Ships - from Early Design to Operational Conditions
Sammanfattning : Forecasts show a doubling of the world’s transportation needs until 2050. Shipping today accounts for 90% of all freight transport. Simultaneously, shipping must become cleaner and more energy-efficient to meet the target to more than halve 2005 greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. LÄS MER
8. Marine Propeller Optimisation - Strategy and Algorithm Development
Sammanfattning : Recent trends in the shipping industry, e.g., expanded routing in ecologically sensitive areas and emission regulations, have sharpened the perception of efficient propeller designs. Currently, propeller efficiency, estimated fuel consumption and, more often, propeller-radiated noise are parameters that steer the business Zeitgeist. LÄS MER
9. Submerged Transmission in Wave Energy Converters : Full Scale In-Situ Experimental Measurements
Sammanfattning : Different wave power technologies are in development around the world in different stages of prototype testing. So far only a few devices have been deployed offshore at full scale for extended periods of time. Little data is published about how these different devices perform. LÄS MER
10. NOx Abatement Technique for Marine Diesel Engines - Improved Marine SCR Systems
Sammanfattning : Growing awareness of the environmental implications of nitrogen oxide (NOX) emissions, such as eutrophication and acidification on land and at sea, has contributed to the development of more stringent international NOX legislations within the framework of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The most stringent IMO legislation, i.e. LÄS MER
