21. Molecular sieve films and zoned materials : synthesis and characterization
Sammanfattning : Molecular sieve films and colloidal particles have great potential for utilization in novel, technological sophisticated applications such as structured catalysts, sensors and membranes. The work in this thesis mainly concerns the synthesis of molecular sieve films and the crystallization of zoned MFI materials. LÄS MER
22. Fuel Ethanol Production from Corn Stover: Optimization of Steam Pretreatment and Improvement of Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation
Sammanfattning : Fuel ethanol, produced from biomass, could well be tomorrow's replacement for gasoline. This thesis deals with the production of fuel ethanol from corn stover using an enzymatic process consisting of the following main steps: steam pretreatment of the raw material, enzymatic hydrolysis, fermentation of the sugars and ethanol refining. 23. Fermentation and Cultivation Technology for Improved Ethanol Production from Lignocellulose
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis has been aiming at improving ethanol production from lignocellulose. Ethanol from renewable resources is receiving renewed attention due to apprehensions of global warming and dwindling oil reserves. Lignocellulose constitutes a potential raw material source for large scale ethanol production. LÄS MER
24. Dynamics of forest soil chemistry
Sammanfattning : Acidification caused by emissions of Nitrogen and Sulphur and associated adverse effects on forest ecosystems has been an issue on the political agenda for decades. Temporal aspects of soil acidification and/or recovery can be investigated using the soil chemistry model SAFE, a dynamic version of the steady-state model PROFILE used in critical loads assessment on the national level, e. 25. Element cycling in forest soils -modelling the effects of a changing environment
Sammanfattning : Element cycling and nutrient supply in forest ecosystems are of vital importance for short-term productivity and for longer-term land management in terms of nutrient leaching and CO2 fixation. This thesis includes a series of studies with the objective of modelling some aspects of the effect of acidification and climate change on element cycling and nutrient supply in forest soil. LÄS MER
