1. Ion Tracks for Micro- and Nanofabrication : From Single Channels to Superhydrophobic Surfaces
Sammanfattning : A method is described for preset-count irradiations between 1 and 100 ions singling-out individual ions from an ion beam with more than a billion ions arriving per second. The ion tracks are etched in a conductometric system with real-time evaluation of the acquired data. The etch process can be interrupted when reaching a preset channel diameter. LÄS MER
2. Nanostructures Studied by Atomic Force Microscopy : Ion Tracks and Nanotextured Films
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis concernes two sorts of nanostructures: energetic-ion-impact-induced surface tracks and gas-deposited WO3 nanoparticles. Our aims to characterise these nanostuctures and understand the physical principles behind their formation are of general interests for basic science as well as of the field of nanotechnology. 3. Protons, other Light Ions, and 60Co Photons : Study of Energy Deposit Clustering via Track Structure Simulations
Sammanfattning : Radiotherapy aims to sterilize cancer cells through ionization induced damages to their DNA whilst trying to reduce dose burdens to healthy tissues. This can be achieved to a certain extent by optimizing the choice of radiation to treat the patient, i.e. the types of particles and their energy based on their specific interaction patterns. LÄS MER
4. Development of Monte Carlo track structure simulations for protons and carbon ions in water
Sammanfattning : The goal of radiation therapy is to eradicate tumour cells while minimising radiation dose to healthy tissues. Ions including protons and carbon ions have gained increasing interest for cancer treatment. LÄS MER
5. High aspect ratio microsystem fabrication by ion track lithography
Sammanfattning : The microsystem processing of today is based on an assortment of diverse and contrasting fabrication techniques, sprung from the microelectronic industry. Microsystem technology has primarily been developed to meet the demands for scaled down low-cost sensor and actuator systems. These devices are based on a number of contrasting principles, e.g. LÄS MER
