1. Biological optimization of angle of incidence and intensity modulation in breast and cervix cancer radiation therapy
Sammanfattning : Biological treatment optimization aim at improving radiation therapy by accounting for the radiobiological tumour and normal tissues response properties when optimizing the dose delivery. Generally traditional methods, using only dosimetrical measures, disregard the nonlinear radiation response of different tumours and normal tissues. LÄS MER
2. Low and High Energy Ion Beams in Nanotechnology
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, two ways of fabrication of nanometer-sized semiconductor features are presented. Low Energy Ion Implantation (LEII) has been used to create shallow (sub-50 nm) and laterally small (5 m m – 200 nm) features by 10 keV As+ doping of B background doped Si. LÄS MER
3. Atomic spectroscopy at heavy ion beams : measurements of wavelengths and lifetimes : development of on-line computer systems
Sammanfattning : .... LÄS MER
4. Experiments on mutual neutralization using storage rings with merged ion beams
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents work on merged-beams experiments using the DESIREE facility, which consists of two electrostatic ion-storage rings operated at cryogenic temperatures of about 13 K. The two storage rings have a common straight section, where oppositely charged ions can interact at sub-eV collision energies. LÄS MER
5. Micro/nanometric Scale Study of Energy Deposition and its Impact on the Biological Response for Ionizing Radiation : Brachytherapy radionuclides, proton and carbon ion beams
Sammanfattning : Research in radiotherapy for cancer treatment focuses on finding methods that can improve the compromise between tumour cell inactivation versus damage to the surrounding healthy tissue. As new radiation modalities such as proton therapy become accessible for everyday clinical practice, a better understanding of the variation in biological response of the tumour and healthy tissues would improve treatment planning to achieve optimal outcome.
