6. Experimental and Numerical Investigation of the Quenching Process on Rotary Hollow Cylinder by Multiple Impinging Jets
Sammanfattning : The worldwide competitive market on metal products with higher quality in industry has increased the need to implement more advanced and controllable quenching techniques in the hardening stage of the heat treatment process. Moreover, sustainability and energy efficiency are key factors to consider in the development of advanced quenching techniques. LÄS MER
7. Experimental Studies of Turbulent Mixing in Impinging Jets
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the experimental study of mixing and flow characteristic in turbulent circular impinging jets without and with jet orifice manipulators (i.e. passive-fixed perturbations atthe nozzle exit), without and with swirl. LÄS MER
8. Making TOFu : Fusion Plasma Neutron Emission Spectrometry with a Fully Digital Data Acquisition System
Sammanfattning : TOFu (Time-Of-Flight upgrade) is a fully digital data acquisition system based on 1 GSPS, 12 bit digitisers for the TOFOR (Time-Of-Flight spectrometer Optimised for Rate) fusion neutron spectrometer at JET. The system has been assessed, developed and subsequently tested during experimental campaigns at JET. LÄS MER
9. Robust Numerical Wall Functions Implemented in OpenFOAM
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents two new numerical wall models for computing Reynolds-Averaged-Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with low-Reynolds-number turbulence models. Theobjective is to considerably reduce the total central processing unit (CPU) cost of thenumerical simulations of wall bounded flows while maintaining the accuracy of anylow-Reynolds-number turbulence model. 10. Flow over rough surfaces, and conjugate heat transfer, in engineering applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on two important topics in the field of fluid mechanics and heat transfer that were treated separately. On the one hand, the flow over rough surfaces, which is not yet completely understood, despite of the fact that it has an important implication in many engineering applications, especially in the naval industry for ships and boats because the friction drag caused by fouling, antifouling coatings and roughness in general impacts the fuel consumption and toxic emissions to the atmosphere.
