  1. 1. Nitric oxide in inflammatory bowel disease

    Författare :Tryggve Ljung; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to study nitric oxide (NO) in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) with a special reference to disease activity and disease location, in bolls an adult and a pediatric patient population, using rectal gas sampling. Furthermore, we investigated the cellular source of the measured NO as well as the relationship between the expression of inducible NO synthase (iNOS) and the proinflammatory TNF-alpha, IL-10 and INF-gamma. 2. 2. A study of lymphocyte functions in multiple myelopma

    Författare :Masih Ostad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple myeloma (MM) is a lymphoproliferative disorder which is characterized by an accumulation of clonotypic plasma, cells in the bone marrow leading to an overproduction of monoclonal immunoglobulin (mIg). The disease often implies a poor prognosis. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mucosal immunity in the respiratory tract : The role of IgA in protection against intracellular pathogens

    Författare :Ariane Rodríguez; Carmen Fernández; Lennart Hammarström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mucosal immunity; respiratory tract; IgA; intracellular pathogens; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : The lungs and upper airways are mucosal surfaces that are common site for infection with an enormous variety of inhaled pathogens. Therefore, induction of immune responses in the respiratory tract is crucial for protection against respiratory diseases. One of the pathogens infecting the host via the respiratory tract is Mycobacterium Tuberculosis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Effects of influenza A virus infections and interferon-gamma on synapse formation and function in hippocampal neurons in culture

    Författare :Johan Brask; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Influenza A virus; hippocampal neurons; interferon-gamma; electrophysiology; synapses.;

    Sammanfattning : The central nervous system (CNS) can be the target for several infections that include those with RNA viruses. The parenchyma of the CNS is considered an immuneprivileged site since it is protected behind the blood-brain barrier, expresses no or only low levels of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules and contains a paucity of antigenpresenting cells that prime an immune response.
