16. Interaction of Heparan Sulfate with Pro- and Anti-Angiogenic Proteins
Sammanfattning : Heparan sulfate (HS) is an unbranched and negatively charged polysaccharide of the glycosaminoglycan family, based on the repeated (GlcNAcα1-4GlcAβ1-4) disaccharide structure. The HS backbone is modified by epimerization and sulfation in various positions. LÄS MER
17. Genetic and epidemiological aspects of implantation defects : Studies on recurrent miscarriage, preeclampsia and oocyte donation
Sammanfattning : Implantation requires complex molecular and cellular events involving coagulation, angiogenesis and immunological processes that need to be well regulated for a pregnancy to establish and progress normally. The overall aim of this thesis was to study different models associated with atypical angiogenesis, impaired implantation and/or placentation, such as recurrent miscarriage (RM), oocyte donation (OD) and preeclampsia. 18. Pre-eclampsia – Possible to Predict? : A Biochemical and Epidemiological Study of Pre-eclampsia
Sammanfattning : Pre-eclampsia is a major cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality worldwide. A predictor of pre-eclampsia would enable intervention, close surveillance and timely delivery, and thereby reduce the negative consequences of the disorder. LÄS MER
19. Molecular and Biological Characteristics of Stroma and Tumor Cells in Colorectal Cancer
Sammanfattning : Carcinogenesis is a progressive process involving multiple genetic alterations in tumor cells and complex interactions in the tumor-host microenvironment. To better understand the contribution of molecular alterations in tumor cells and stromal variables to the development of colorectal cancer (CRC) and identify prognostic factors, in this study we examined the clinicopathological and biological significance of stromal variables, including particularly interesting new cysteine-histidine rich protein (PINCH), inflammatory infiltration, angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis, as well as hRAD50/hMRE11/hNBS1 proteins and hRAD50 mutation in tumor cell in CRC. 20. Development of a novel methodology for the synthesis of oligonucleo-peptide conjugates
Sammanfattning : Peptide-oligonucleotide conjugates constitute a new class of antisense molecules that exhibit improved biological activity over standard oligonucleotide analogues. Currently, these oligomeric bioconjugates are prepared by either solution- or solid-phase techniques. LÄS MER
