11. Probing biomolecular fragmentation
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with fragmentation of complex molecular ions, especially biomolecules, in gas phase collision experiments. The aim is to investigate the relations between energy deposition and fragmentation and to shed light on the mechanisms behind energy and charge transfer processes in collisions involving the building blocks of life. 12. Anions from the lab to ionospheres
Sammanfattning : Anion processes have been in the focus of interest during the last decades, especially due to their importance in planetary ionospheres. Previous observations done by the Cassini Plasma Spectrometer, detected a multitude of heavy neutral and ionic molecules in the ionosphere of Saturn's moon Titan. LÄS MER
13. Mechanisms of Anion Reactions from the lab to ionospheres
Sammanfattning : A multitude of heavy neutral and ionic molecules have been discovered by the Cassini Plasma Spectrometer in the ionosphere of Saturn's largest moon Titan. However, only three cyano anions were explicitly identified there, namely CN-, C3N- and C5N-. LÄS MER
14. Ions in cold electrostatic storage devices
Sammanfattning : We have constructed a compact purely electrostatic ion-beam trap, ConeTrap, which we have mounted inside a double-walled vacuum chamber. In the inner vacuum chamber, we can obtain ultra-high vacuum (UHV) conditions and reach thermal equilibrium at well controlled temperatures down to 10 K. LÄS MER
15. Electron-transfer processes in fast ion-atom collisions
Sammanfattning : The subject of this thesis is experimental studies of electron-transfer processes in ion-atom collisions at velocities significantly higher than typical orbital velocities of electrons in bound states of atoms or molecules. The experimental technique applied combines the high beam intensity of heavy-ion storage rings with a supersonic gas-jet target equipped with a recoil-ion-momentum spectrometer. LÄS MER
