1. Raketsommar : Science fiction i Sverige 1950–1968
Sammanfattning : The subject of this dissertation is the introduction and reception of science fiction literature in Sweden 1950–1968. Apart from considerations on science fiction as a genre and market category, and a brief survey of science fiction published in Sweden before the year 1950, the dissertation scrutinizes the Swedish publishers’ attempts at introducing both domestic and translated science fiction, the reception of the genre in Swedish literary criticism, the magazines Häpna! (1954–1966) and Galaxy (1958–1960), and the foundation of a Swedish science fiction fan culture. LÄS MER
2. Clues to galaxy evolution from spectroscopic observations of Galactic centre stars
Sammanfattning : In this work we present results from spectroscopic observations of Galactic centre stars. High resolution stellar spectroscopy can be used to determine accurate stellar metallicities and abundances. Observing stars in the Galactic centre is challenging due to extreme extinction. LÄS MER
3. Galaxies in the epoch of reionization : Investigating the high-redshift galaxy population through simulations and observations
Sammanfattning : The cosmic reionization is the last major gas phase transition in cosmic history, yet it remains poorly understood. Current constraints indicate that early star-forming galaxies drove the reionization process through producing and releasing large numbers of ionizing photons into the intergalactic medium. LÄS MER
4. Investigating the Dark Universe through Gravitational Lensing
Sammanfattning : A variety of precision observations suggest that the present universe is dominated by some unknown components, the so-called dark matter and dark energy. The distribution and properties of these components are the focus of modern cosmology and we are only beginning to understand them. LÄS MER
5. Determination of stellar ages and star formation histories - a Bayesian approach With an application to nearby F and G stars
Sammanfattning : In order to understand the formation and evolution of the Galaxy it is imperative to know when different components formed. This means at the most basic level that we need to know the ages of stars. The present work demonstrates the many problems inherent in determining the ages of stars through comparison with stellar evolutionary models. LÄS MER
