11. Waveguide Finite Elements Applied on a Car Tyre
Sammanfattning : Structures acting as waveguides are quite common withexamples being, construction beams, fluid filled pipes, railsand extruded aluminium profiles. Curved structures like cartyres and pipe-bends may also be considered as waveguides. Wavesolutions in such structures may be found by a method calledthe Waveguide Finite Element Method or WFEM. 12. Valuing Path-Dependent Options using the Finite Element Method, Duality Techniques, and Model Reduction
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we develop an adaptive finite element method for pricing of several path-dependent options including barrier options, lookback options, and Asian options. The options are priced using the Black-Scholes PDE-model, and the resulting PDE:s are of parabolic type in one spatial dimension with different boundary conditions and jump conditions at monitoring dates. 13. Rib and Thoracic Response in Frontal Car Crashes: A Study Using a Finite Element Human Body Model
Sammanfattning : Traditionally, restraint systems have been evaluated with Anthropomorphic Test Devices (ATDs) and the thoracic injury criteria have been based on parameters assessed using ATDs, such as chest compression. ATDs have limitations since they are only a gross representation of the human body. LÄS MER
14. Finite element methods for surface problems
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to further develop numerical methods for solving surface problems by utilizing tangential calculus and the trace finite element method. Direct computation on the surface is possible by the use of tangential calculus, in contrast to the classical approach of mapping 2D parametric surfaces to 3D surfaces by means of differential geometry operators. 15. Postprocessing Techniques and Adaptivity in the Finite Element Method
Sammanfattning : The Finite Element (FE) method is an approximate method and as such the accuracy of its solutions must be controlled to allow for a reliable application. This thesis deals with error estimation and improvements of the FE solutions based on superconvergent properties of the FE solution in certain points. LÄS MER
