  1. 11. Swelling and Mechanical Properties of Polymer Gels: Salt, Macroion and Network Topology Effects

    Författare :Samuel Edgecombe; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; volume decrease upon uniaxial extension; interpenetrating networks; loose-end effects; polydispersity effects; macroion deswelling; salt deswelling; polymer gels; polyelectrolyte gels; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The work in this thesis concerns polymer gels, especially their swelling and mechanical properties modelled using a coarse-grained model of polyelectrolytes. The method used to study polymer gels was molecular simulation utilising the simulation package MOLSIM. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Polymer Gels and their Interactions with Ionic Surfactants

    Författare :Olof Rosén; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Polymer-Surfactant Interactions; Modified Polymers; Binding Isotherm; Polymer Gels; Swelling Isotherm; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The response on chemically crosslinked gels and polymer solutions on the addition of ionic surfactants and/or addition of salt at different temperatures have been studied. All polymers studied are water soluble and slightly hydrophobic or hydrophobically modified. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Nuclear magnetic resonance studies of water self-diffusion in porous systems

    Författare :Daniel Topgaard; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diffusion diffraction; nonfreezing; anisotropy; tortuosity; cross relaxation; emulsion; starch; cellulose; porous material; water; NMR; self-diffusion; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) was used to study the self-diffusion of water in porous systems that respond to a change in water content in order to elucidate the porous structure and the properties of the confined water. In the carbohydrate systems cellulose fibers and starch granules, water is free to move throughout the porous objects, albeit with a rate reduced from the value of the bulk liquid, The reduction is related to the tortuosity of the pore space filled by water. 4. 14. Phase Equilibria and Structures of Oppositely Charged Polymers and Surfactants in Water

    Författare :Anna Svensson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self diffusion; PFG NMR; hexagonal; cubic Pm3n; liquid crystals; SAXS; polymer; counterion; complex; polyelectrolyte; surfactant; Monte Carlo simulations; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : A new approach to the study of aqueous mixtures of oppositely charged polymers and surfactants has been introduced. Pure polyion-surfactant ion complex salts have been synthesized and used as the point of departure. The elimination of the simple ions reduces the number of components in the mixtures, thus greatly simplifying the system. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Green Colloid Chemistry: Characterization of Environmentally Friendly Nonionic Surfactant Systems

    Författare :Christy Whiddon; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nucleophilic substitution; alkylglucosides; bicontinious micelles; self-diffusion NMR; nonionic surfactants; micellar catalysis; Physical chemistry; pKa; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Phase diagrams of mixed alkylglucoside surfactants, n-nonyl-b-D-glucopyranoside and n-decyl-b-D-glucopyranoside (C9G1 and C10G1) have been examined for the purpose of determining the microstructure surrounding a closed-loop miscibiliyt gap. There are large deuterium isotope effects on the phase diagram. LÄS MER
