1. Bridge Overhang Slabs with Edge Beams : LCCA and Structural Analysis for the Development of New Concepts
Sammanfattning : Bridge edge beams are associated with high life-cycle costs because of the need of maintenance, which also causes traffic disturbances. For this reason, the Swedish Transport Administration started a project to find better solutions. One of the proposals was a design without edge beam. LÄS MER
2. Realise the Potential! : Cost Effective and Energy Efficient District Heating in European Urban Areas
Sammanfattning : The Member States of EU27 need to accelerate the integration of energy efficient technology solutions to reach the 20% energy efficiency target set for 2020. At current pace, projections indicate that only half of expected primary energy reductions will be reached. LÄS MER
3. Techniques to Cancel Execution Early to Improve Processor Efficiency
Sammanfattning : The evolution of computer systems to continuously improve execution efficiency has traditionally embraced various approaches across microprocessor generations. Unfortunately, contemporary processors still suffer from several inefficiencies although they offer an unprecedented level of computing capabilities. LÄS MER
4. Modelling District Heating Network Costs
Sammanfattning : The solution of the undergoing climate and energy crises requires a radical transformation of the energy system, in which sustainability, no carbon emissions and energy efficiency ought to play a paramount role. This revolution should extend to all areas of the energy system, including the space heating and cooling sector, which accounts for a third of the European final energy demand and, in the European continent, it is still mostly supplied by fossil fuels. 5. District heating in future Europe : Modelling expansion potentials and mapping heat synergy regions
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a set of methodologies and approaches to investigate and determine the extent by which district heating can contribute to improved energy system efficiency and reduced carbon dioxide emissions in future Europe. The main motivation for suggesting large-scale implementation of district heating as a structural energy efficiency measure to obtain these objectives originates essentially in the predicament that a majority of European buildings today remain highly dependent on fossil fuels to provide energy needed for space heating and hot water preparation.
