  1. 1. District heating in future Europe : Modelling expansion potentials and mapping heat synergy regions

    Författare :Urban Persson; Sven Werner; Lars J. Nilsson; Sweden Gothenburg Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; district heating; energy efficiency; distribution capital cost; heat demand density; plot ratio; excess heat recovery; sequential energy supply; heat utilisation rate; effective width;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a set of methodologies and approaches to investigate and determine the extent by which district heating can contribute to improved energy system efficiency and reduced carbon dioxide emissions in future Europe. The main motivation for suggesting large-scale implementation of district heating as a structural energy efficiency measure to obtain these objectives originates essentially in the predicament that a majority of European buildings today remain highly dependent on fossil fuels to provide energy needed for space heating and hot water preparation. 2. 2. Integrating Latent Heat Storage into Residential Heating Systems : A study from material and component characterization to system analysis

    Författare :Tianhao Xu; Samer Sawalha; Björn Palm; Justin NingWei Chiu; Tianshu GE; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; phase change material; thermal energy storage; heat pump; load shifting; space heating; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) systems can be coupled with heat pump (HP) systems to realize heat load shifting on demand side. With phase change material (PCM), well designed LHTES components exhibit high storage energy density and thus have large potentials to be integrated in residence where a compact energy storage solution is needed. Sammanfattning : In order to meet the need for increased electrification, and at the same time reduce the total demand for electric energy, behavior change and technological innovation is needed. Over the decades power density of electric motors have increased, leading to increased demands on the cooling system design and performance. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Equating Earth’s existence to 24 hours, we, the Homo sapiens, came about in the last four seconds. Fossil fuel came to our knowledge with mass extraction dating from the Industrial Revolution two centuries ago, in other words 4 milliseconds out of Earth’s 24-hour equivalent lifetime. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Modelling District Heating Network Costs

    Författare :Luis Sánchez-García; Urban Persson; Helge Averfalk; Erik Möllerström; Marcus Thern; Magnus Åberg; Sweden Lund Lund University; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; District Heating; Pipe network; Cost analysis; Distribution Capital Cost; Effective Width; Plot Ratio; Heat Density; GIS; Smart Cities and Communities; Smarta städer och samhällen;

    Sammanfattning : The solution of the undergoing climate and energy crises requires a radical transformation of the energy system, in which sustainability, no carbon emissions and energy efficiency ought to play a paramount role. This revolution should extend to all areas of the energy system, including the space heating and cooling sector, which accounts for a third of the European final energy demand and, in the European continent, it is still mostly supplied by fossil fuels.
