31. Cost-efficient carbon abatement strategies in the EU with specific focus on forest carbon sequestration
Sammanfattning : Forests can contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions by storing carbon in standing biomass or in products made of wood. Alternatively, harvested biomass can be used as bioenergy and replace fossil fuels. This thesis analyses the cost-efficiency of introducing forest carbon sequestration (FCS) into EU climate policy. 32. Ecohydrological water flow analysis of a Swedish landscape in a 100 year perspective
Sammanfattning : The study basically involves analysis in a 100 year perspective of the hydrological response on precipitation from different landscape elements in south-central Sweden, characterized by the interaction of topography, soil type, land management and canopy cover. For this purpose, a dynamic water partitioning model, based on the soil moisture balance, was developed together with a Geographical Information System (GIS)-supported method for the detection of the spatial distribution of soil wetness as an indicator of the probability to act as discharge or recharge areas respectively. 33. Tool steel for tool holder applications : microstructure and mechanical properties
Sammanfattning : Large improvements in cutting tool design and technology, including the application of advanced surface engineering treatments on the cemented carbide insert, have been achieved in the last decades to enhance tool performance. However, the problem of improving the tool body material is not adequately studied. LÄS MER
34. Metal Oxide Nanoparticles for Contrast Enhancement in Magnetic Resonance Imaging : Synthesis, Functionalization and Characterization
Sammanfattning : This thesis work focuses on the design and production of nanoparticle based contrast agents for signal enhancement in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Three different synthesis routes are explored, primarily to produce crystalline gadolinium oxide (Gd2O3) nanoparticles, and surface modification is done to obtain stable, dispersible, biocompatible probes inducing high proton relaxivities. 35. A TEM Investigation of Contact between Nanoparticles
Sammanfattning : Interaction between nanoparticles (1~100nm) provides us with answers to fundamental questions in many important applications e.g. adhesion, friction, and cold welding. The attractive force arises from the reduction of the total free surface and thus the total surface energy due to the formation of a boundary between the contacting particles. LÄS MER
