  1. 11. Making overtaking cyclists safer: Driver intention models in threat assessment and decision-making of advanced driver assistance system

    Författare :Prateek Thalya; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cyclist; Euro NCAP; Overtaking; ADAS; Driver intention; Interaction;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: The number of cyclist fatalities makes up 3% of all fatalities globally and 7.8% in the European Union. Cars overtaking cyclists on rural roads are complex situations. Miscommunication and misunderstandings between road users may lead to crashes and severe injuries, particularly to cyclists, due to lack of protection. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Driving Safe in the Future - HMI for Integrated Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

    Författare :Anders Lindgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Driver Needs and Requirements; Advisory Warnings; Integrated Warnings; Driver Assistance; ADAS; Cross-cultural Differences; Ecological Interface Design;

    Sammanfattning : To be able to drive safely and efficiently, drivers need information from the surrounding traffic environment that make it possible to foresee early events that may negatively affect safety. A driver can in some cases perceive events that potentially have a negative impact on traffic safety, but in other cases not. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Facing failures : interactions between drivers and advanced driver assistance systems

    Författare :Niklas Strand; Håkan Alm; Statens väg- och transportforskningsinstitut; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adaptive cruise control; Driver assistance system; Driver; Behaviour; Thesis; Adaptiva farthållare; Förarstödssystem; Förare; Beteende; Doktorsavhandling; 841 Road: Road user behaviour; 841 Road: Road user behaviour; 914 Road: ITS och vehicle technology; 914 Road: ITS och vehicle technology; 911 Road: Components of the vehicle; 911 Road: Components of the vehicle;

    Sammanfattning : Drivers’ interactions with advanced driver assistance systems based on experiences from real driving and results from driving in a driving simulator were under investigation in this thesis. Questions posed were: - How do drivers perceive and interact with ADAS? - How are (technical) failures handled by drivers, and which are the consequences’ of these failures? - Which are the implications for diagnosis and detection of failures, as well as for system development? Special attention was given to driver behavior in response to technical failures in an adaptive cruise control system. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Towards computational models for road-user interaction: Drivers overtaking pedestrians and cyclists

    Författare :Alexander Rasch; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; active safety; vulnerable road users; cyclist safety; driver models; interaction models; overtaking; Euro NCAP; driver behavior; Pedestrian safety;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Crashes resulting from a failed interaction between drivers and vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians or cyclists, can lead to severe injuries or fatalities, especially after failed overtaking maneuvers on rural roads where designated refuge areas are often absent, and impact speeds high. This thesis contains two studies that shed light on driver interaction with either 1) a pedestrian or 2) a cyclist, and oncoming traffic while overtaking. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : In the last several years, the focus of traffic safety research—especially when performed in association with the automotive industry—has shifted from preventing injury during a crash to avoiding the crash altogether or mitigating its effects. Pre-crash safety measures include intelligent safety systems (e.g. LÄS MER
