  1. 1. Detection of pulmonary nodules in chest tomosynthesis: Comparison with chest radiography, evaluation of learning effects and investigation of radiation dose level dependency

    Författare :Sara Asplund; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chest radiography; Chest tomosynthesis; Nodule detection; Observer performance; Free-response receiver operating characteristics;

    Sammanfattning : Chest tomosynthesis is a relatively recently introduced technique in healthcare, which produces section images of the chest at a lower radiation dose than computed tomography (CT) and with better depth resolution than conventional chest radiography. The primary aims of the studies described in this dissertation were to compare chest tomosynthesis with conventional radiography, to evaluate the effects of clinical experience and learning with feedback on the performance of observers analyzing tomosynthesis images, and to investigate the effect of radiation dose level in tomosynthesis, in the detection of pulmonary nodules. 2. 2. Development of methods for evaluation and optimization of chest tomosynthesis

    Författare :Angelica Svalkvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Chest tomosynthesis; Evaluation; Optimization; Simulation; Image Quality; Dosimetry; Dose reduction; Nodule simulation; Validation;

    Sammanfattning : Tomosynthesis is a low-dose technique that has attracted increasing interest from the medical imaging community during the past decade. Tomosynthesis refers to the technique of acquiring a number of projection radiographs using extremely low exposure over a limited angular range, and using these radiographs to reconstruct slices of the imaged object. 3. 3. Chest Tomosynthesis for Detection and Surveillance of Pulmonary Pathology. Studies on Cystic Fibrosis and Solid Pulmonary Nodules

    Författare :Carin Meltzer; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; digital tomosynthesis; cystic fibrosis; solid lung nodules;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Digital tomosynthesis (DTS) is a relatively new imaging modality in thoracic imaging. The technique is based on the equipment of conventional radiography, upgraded with a moving tube that enables separation of structures that are superimposed on chest x-ray (CXR). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Tomosynthesis in pulmonary cystic fibrosis

    Författare :Kristina Vult von Steyern; Lund Diagnostisk radiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cystic fibrosis; Lung; Radiation dose; Radiography; Scoring methods; Tomography; spiral computed; X-ray computed;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate whether chest tomosynthesis might be used in pulmonary cystic fibrosis, to design and validate a tomosynthesis scoring system, and to determine the effective dose from chest tomosynthesis in children. In a prospective study starting in 2008 clinical chest radiography or computed tomography (CT) were supplemented with a tomosynthesis examination of the lungs. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The dependency of image quality on acquisition protocol and image processing in chest tomosynthesis

    Författare :Masoud Jadidi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The digital tomosynthesis (DTS) technique is a next generation of the old tomography technique, the use of which has been extended during the past decade. The interest in this technique has increased more and more in Radiology due to its ability to provide threedimensional images by acquiring a number of projection radiographs at lower radiation dose and potentially lower cost than CT in certain clinical situations.
