  1. 1. NHBD Lung Transplantation

    Författare :Per Wierup; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Surgery; rat; pig; edema formation; lung preservation; bronchial healing; gas exchange; lung evaluation; Lung transplantation; non-heart-beating donor NHBD ;

    Sammanfattning : The waiting list for lung transplantations world-wide is steadily growing. So, the use of lungs from non-heart-beating donors (NHBD) needs to be addressed. Hence, the aim of this thesis was to evaluate, in realistic animal models, the new donor organ concept: NHBD transplantation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Lung Cancer : Epidemiological and Clinical Studies with Special Reference to Surgical Treatment

    Författare :Gunnar Myrdal; Elisabeth Ståhle; Mats Lambe; Bengt Bergman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; lung cancer; surgical treatment; early mortality; survival; smoking; quality of life; adenocarcinoma; incidence; Sweden; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Thoracic and Cardivascular Suregery; kirurgi; särskilt thoraxkirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : From being a rare disease in the early 1900s, lung cancer is today the most common forms of cancer worldwide. This development is due to the gradual uptake of cigarette smoking in different populations and birth cohorts during the past 75 years. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Intestinal effects of lung recruitment maneuvers

    Författare :Jonas Claesson; Ola Winsö; Stefan Lehtipalo; Conny Arnerlöv; Björn Biber; Göran Hedenstierna; Petter Aadahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acute lung injury; oleic acid lung injury; ischemia; reperfusion injury; swine; mechanical ventilation; lung recruitment; splanchnic circulation; laser Doppler flowmetry; tissue oxygen tension; microdialysis; lactate; glycerol; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Lung recruitment maneuvers (brief episodes of high airway pressure) are a modern treatment alternative to achieve open lung conditions under mechanical ventilation of patients with acute lung injury. It is well known that positive pressure ventilation with high airway pressures cause negative circulatory effects, and that the effects on regional vascular beds can be even more pronounced than the systemic effects. 4. 4. Charting the human lung with inhaled nanoparticles : Development of AiDA - a new diagnostic technique for respiratory disease

    Författare :Jonas Jakobsson; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :Aerosol; lung; lung deposition; respiratory tract; nanoparticles; ultrafine particles; airspace dimension assessment; AiDA; Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; COPD; lung morphology;

    Sammanfattning : Changes to the smallest structures of the distal lung are often the first sign of severe respiratory disease, but to date methods to detect and quantify these changes are limited. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is currently estimated to be the third most common cause of death worldwide, but is to a large extent under-diagnosed, especially at early stages. 5. 5. Lung volumes and lung mechanics in anesthetized children

    Författare :Adalbjörn Thorsteinsson; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sulfur hexafluoride; Anaesthesiology; lung volumes; lung compliance; Anesthesia: pediatric; functional residual capacity; intensive care; Anestesiologi; ventilation inhomogeneity; intensivvård; airway closure;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis was intended to fill gaps in the knowledge regarding the normal development of lung volumes and lung mechanics in children, from young infancy to the mid-teens. In particular, data were previously lacking regarding pre-school children. The studies were done during anesthesia and muscle relaxation. LÄS MER
