1. Metabolic and immunological interactions between adipose tissue and breast cancer - implications of obesity in tumor progression
Sammanfattning : Triple-negative breast cancers have fewer treatment options than other breast cancers. The overall goal of this research is to identify new pharmaceutical targets for triple-negative breast cancer through studies of the tumor-promoting crosstalk between tumor and surrounding adipose tissue. 2. Aspects of PET-CT in prostate cancer. Protocol optimization, diagnostic accuracy, and dosimetry
Sammanfattning : The PET-CT imaging modality is based on positron emission tomography combined with computed tomography. Before a PET-CT examination, a radioactive tracer (also called a radiopharmaceutical) is intravenously injected into the patient. PET technology images the distribution of this tracer element by detecting the decay. LÄS MER
3. Heparan sulfate dependent cell signaling and associated pathophysiology : Implications in tumorigenesis and embryogenesis
Sammanfattning : Heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) consist of a protein core to which several linear, negatively charged heparan sulfate (HS) chains are covalently attached. HSPGs are expressed on the cell surface and in the extra-cellular matrix (ECM) where they have diverse biological functions, for example co-receptor functions. LÄS MER
4. Prolactin and growth hormone in breast cancer. Studies of human breast cancer and transgenic tumor models
Sammanfattning : Prolactin (PRL) and growth hormone (GH) are two related pituitary peptide hormones of importance during normal mammary gland development. Furthermore, their involvement in development and growth of malignant mammary tumors has been suggested by several investigators. LÄS MER
5. Mental adjustment and Health-related: Quality of Life In laryngeal cancer patients Quantitative and Qualitative approaches
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate mental adjustment and HRQL in patients treated for laryngeal cancer. Specific aims were to evaluate if either VAS or Likert response options was more suitable when assessing self-ratings of voice and speech; to investigate the sensitivity to change of the Swedish Self Evaluation of Communication Experiences after Laryngeal Cancer questionnaire (the S-SECEL); to investigate the relation between mental adjustment to cancer and HRQL, mood disorder and survival and to evaluate the content validity of the Swedish version of the Mini-MAC Scale.
