  1. 1. Biodiversity and green infrastructure in urban landscapes

    Författare :Ulf G. Sandström; Per Angelstam; Abdul Khakee; Kjell Nilsson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biologi; Birds in cities; Communication between sciences; Conservation planning; Landscape ecology; Swedish green planning; Urban green space; Urban planning; Urban vegetation; Biologi med ekologisk inriktning; Biology; Biologi; Biologi med ekologisk inriktning;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I evaluate the extent to which biodiversity is affected, and taken into consideration by, urban planning. Based on landscape ecology, I apply an interdisciplinary approach. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Management of urban woodlands - effects on bird communities and recreational values

    Författare :Erik Heyman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Forest management; Urban woodlands; Birds; Recreation; Clearance; Understory;

    Sammanfattning : The ongoing urbanisation increases the pressure on urban nature. Urban woodlands are receiving growing attention as they provide valuable ecosystem services to urban citizens, mainly by providing areas for recreation but also through improving air quality and reducing noise. 3. 3. Japanese encephalitis virus in pigs and vectors in the Mekong Delta : with special reference to urban farming

    Författare :Johanna Lindahl; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Japanese encephalitis Virus (JEV) is a mosquito-borne flavivirus in East and South Asia, estimated to cause 60 000 human cases of Japanese encephalitis each year. The main transmission cycle for JEV is via mosquito vectors, mainly Culex species, between pigs and wading birds, the reservoir hosts. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Traditional use of wildlife in modern society : public attitudes and hunters' motivations

    Författare :Per Ljung; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Populations of many large mammals and birds are increasing in many parts of Europe and North America. At the same time, the number of hunters is generally decreasing and an increasing proportion of people live in urban areas. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Impacts of urbanisation on birds : Disentangling the effects of multiple pollutants on avian behaviour and physiology

    Författare :Ann-Kathrin Ziegler; Evolutionär ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; artificial light at night; ALAN; antioxidants; great tit; light pollution; LPS; multi-stressor; noise pollution; tropospheric ozone; urbanisation; zebra finch;

    Sammanfattning : Anthropogenic pollution is a pervasive feature of urbanisation, reaching into ecosystems worldwide and posing novel challenges to wildlife. Not surprisingly, differences in behaviour, and physiology, have been found between urban and rural populations. LÄS MER
