16. The Role of Hox Transcription Factors in the Regulation of Hematopoiesis
Sammanfattning : Hematopoiesis is a lifelong, dynamic process, originating from a low number of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) residing in the adult bone marrow with the ability to self-renew and generate all blood lineages throughout life. Recent findings have demonstrated that the Homeobox (Hox) transcription factors are important regulators of both normal and malignant hematopoiesis, controlling proliferation, differentiation and self-renewal of hematopoietic cells at different levels of the hematopoietic hierarchy. 17. Aberrancies associated with dendritic cells and T lymphocytes in type 1 diabetes
Sammanfattning : The incidence of type 1 diabetes has rapidly increased in the Western world and the age of onset has shifted to younger ages. Type 1 diabetes is a chronic disease caused by destruction of the insulin producing ß-cells in the pancreas leading to severe insulin deficiency. This results in hyperglycaemia and diagnosis of overt type 1 diabetes. LÄS MER
18. Function of B2-adrenoceptors on alveolar macrophages
Sammanfattning : B2-Agonists are very effective drugs for bronchodilatation, provide a rapid relief of symptoms in asthma, and are recommended as first line treatment, together with steroids. The relaxation of bronchial smooth muscles is a well-established effect of B-agonists, but their effects on inflammatory cells in the airways are less certain. LÄS MER
19. The effects of neurotrophic substances on primary sensory neurons following peripheral nerve injury
Sammanfattning : Sensory impulses from the periphery is transmitted by primary sensory neurons located in dorsal root and cranial nerve ganglia. The primary sensory neurons are phenotypically diverse with regard to their expression of various chemical components. LÄS MER
20. Studies on the regulation of leukotriene biosynthesis in antigen presenting cells
Sammanfattning : Leukotrienes (LTs) are pro-inflammatory lipid mediators with important roles in host de- fense and inflammatory disease. Leukotriene B4 (LTB4) is a potent chemoattractant for neutrophils and contributes to bacterial killing, while the cysteinyl leukotrienes (LTC4, LTD4 and LTE4) elicit increased vascular permeability, bronchoconstriction, eosinophil trafficking and mucus secretion.
