1. The Role of Hox Transcription Factors in the Regulation of Hematopoiesis
Sammanfattning : Hematopoiesis is a lifelong, dynamic process, originating from a low number of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) residing in the adult bone marrow with the ability to self-renew and generate all blood lineages throughout life. Recent findings have demonstrated that the Homeobox (Hox) transcription factors are important regulators of both normal and malignant hematopoiesis, controlling proliferation, differentiation and self-renewal of hematopoietic cells at different levels of the hematopoietic hierarchy. 2. Scalable and Efficient Probabilistic Topic Model Inference for Textual Data
Sammanfattning : Probabilistic topic models have proven to be an extremely versatile class of mixed-membership models for discovering the thematic structure of text collections. There are many possible applications, covering a broad range of areas of study: technology, natural science, social science and the humanities. LÄS MER
3. Immune tolerance by interferon-alpha in experimental arthritis
Sammanfattning : Type I Interferons (mainly IFN-α & IFN-β) belong to a family of cytokines that possess strong antiviral and immunomodulatory properties. Pro- and/or anti-inflammatory effects of type I IFN have been observed in infectious diseases and several autoimmune diseases including SLE, MS, RA and experimental models thereof, but what defines either outcome is largely obscure. 4. Systemic and local regulation of experimental arthritis by IFN-α, dendritic cells and uridine
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, we have studied the immunological processes of joint inflammation that may be targets for future treatment of patients with arthritis. We focus on the immune-modulating properties of interferon-α (IFN-α) and uridine in experimental arthritis. LÄS MER
5. Diagnostic and prognostic potential of joint imaging in patients with anti-citrullinated protein antibodies
Sammanfattning : The introduction of novel therapeutic strategies set new goals for the patients’ outcome, which aims to achieve remission. This goal requires early diagnosis of RA and prompt efficient pharmacotherapy. The introduction of anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA) two decades ago allowed an earlier RA diagnosis. LÄS MER
