16. Sex Chromosome Evolution in a Hermaphrodite : Genetic and phenotypic relationships between sex roles
Sammanfattning : Sex chromosome evolution in a hermaphrodite ancestor starts with the establishment of a sex-determining region (SDR). Over time, sex-specific genes, and/or sexually antagonistic alleles will become linked to the SDR. LÄS MER
17. Robot-assisted laparoscopy for benign uterine disease. Feasibility, outcome and hospital cost
Sammanfattning : The introduction of the laparoscope was a milestone within gynecologic surgery. Despite evidence of better perioperative outcome compared to laparotomy, laparoscopy is mostly performed for less advanced surgical procedures and the uptake of laparoscopic hysterectomy has been slow. 18. Sodium Batteries: From Liquid to Polymer Electrolytes
Sammanfattning : Today lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are dominating the field of rechargeable batteries for portable devices. More recently LIBs have also been considered for large-scale applications, such as in the areas of electromobility and grid storage. LÄS MER
19. Domain-based partitioning for parallel SAMR applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a study of domain-based partitioning techniques for dynamic structured grid hierarchies, occuring in structured adaptive mesh refinement (SAMR) methods. Such methods for obtaining the numerical solution to partial differential equations yield highly advantageous ratios for cost/accuracy as compared to methods based upon static uniform approximations. 20. Bioinformatics mining for disease causing mutations : using the dog genome as a model for human disease
Sammanfattning : Humans and dogs share many common diseases, and it has been shown that the identification of mutations that cause disease in dogs can help unravel the genetic basis for a similar disease in humans. Mapping of traits and disease in dogs is not a new idea, but the sequencing of the whole dog genome, the creation of a dense SNP maps followed by the development of SNP arrays for high throughput genotyping has led to new facilitated mapping procedures.
