16. Networks in epigenetics
Sammanfattning : Networks are ubiquitous. It is only recently, we started exploring what purpose they serve in real world. Biological research supposedly has, and will be, benefited most from the network science because of inherent complexity embedded in its multilayered organization. LÄS MER
17. Crosstalk between environmental signals and 3d genome organization in the regulation of gene expression
Sammanfattning : The thesis explores the connection between environmental stimuli and gene expression regulated by the spatial changes in genome organization. In Paper I, by applying state of the art Circular Chromosome Conformation Capture assay (4C) and Chromatin in situ Proximity (ChrISP) techniques, we show that transcriptionally active circadian genes meet in space with repressed lamina-associated domains (LADs), and that these interactions are under the control of the circadian clock. 18. Small-Molecule Galectin Inhibitors - On Tweezers and Talosides
Sammanfattning : Abstract Work on the design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of galectin inhibitors is presented. The most significant results relate to the development of galactose-based arginine “tweezers” and taloside-based galectin inhibitors. The galectins are a β-galactoside binding protein family. LÄS MER
19. Air mass boundary identification : improvement of precipitation phase determination in surface based modeling
Sammanfattning : Snowpack properties derived from hydrological models play an important role for many ecological, water resource, and climate applications; such as winter survival of plants, reindeer, small mammals and birds, avalanche hazards, glaciers and polar ice accumulation, growth of sea and lake ices, climate change, snow melt flooding etc. These hydrological models need accurate precipitation phase discrimination schemes to closely portray e. 20. A Numerical and Experimental Investigation of the Internal Flow of a Freezing Water Droplet
Sammanfattning : The overarching aim of this work is to study the freezing process of a single water droplet freezing on a cold surface, which is an interesting and important phenomenon with possible applications in many areas. Understanding the freezing process of a single water droplet is for example an important step when preventing unwanted icing, e.g. LÄS MER
