1. Adsorption, aggregation and phase separation in colloidal systems
Sammanfattning : The thesis presents work regarding amphiphilic molecules associated in aqueous solution or at the liquid/solid interface. Two main topics are included: the temperature-dependent behavior of micelles and the adsorption of dispersants on carbon nanotube (CNT) surfaces. LÄS MER
2. Interaction between Crosslinked Polyelectrolyte Gels and Oppositely Charged Surfactants
Sammanfattning : The interactions between anionic, crosslinked gels and cationic surfactants have been investigated. When exposed to oppositely charged surfactant, the gel collapses into a dense complex of polyion and micelles. LÄS MER
3. Sterically stabilised liposomes and related lipid aggregates : Fundamental studies on aggragate structure and stability
Sammanfattning : Various aspects of and approaches towards the steric stabilisation of liposomes have been investigated, mainly by use of fluorescence techniques and cryo-transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM). It is shown that PEG(2000)-lipids can be incorporated in the liposome membrane up to a critical concentration of 8-10 mol% without any observable structural perturbations. LÄS MER
4. Interfacial properties of some carbohydrate-based surfactants and polymers
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is primarily to investigate theadsorption of surfactants, in particular to the airwaterinterface. The effects of the head-group and the hydrocarbonchain are of special interest. LÄS MER
5. Synthesis of nanostructured and hierarchical materials for bio-applications
Sammanfattning : In recent years, nanostructured materials incorporated with inorganic particles and polymers have attracted attention for simultaneous multifunctional biomedical applications. This thesis summarized three works, which are preparation of mesoporous silica coated superparamagnetic iron oxide (Fe3O4@mSiO2) nanoparticles (NPs) as magnetic resonance imaging T2 contrast agents, polymer grafted Fe3O4@mSiO2 NPs response to temperature change, synthesis and biocompatibility evaluation of high aspect ratio (AR) gold nanorods.
