1. Synthesis of nanostructured and hierarchical materials for bio-applications
Sammanfattning : In recent years, nanostructured materials incorporated with inorganic particles and polymers have attracted attention for simultaneous multifunctional biomedical applications. This thesis summarized three works, which are preparation of mesoporous silica coated superparamagnetic iron oxide (Fe3O4@mSiO2) nanoparticles (NPs) as magnetic resonance imaging T2 contrast agents, polymer grafted Fe3O4@mSiO2 NPs response to temperature change, synthesis and biocompatibility evaluation of high aspect ratio (AR) gold nanorods. 2. Poly(N-Isopropylacrylamide) Polymer Brush Functionalized Nanostructures as Thermo-Responsive Gating Systems for Protein Transportation
Sammanfattning : Controlling molecule translocation through nanosized gaps is of great interest in novel systems for single molecule analysis and biomolecular membranes. The molecular gating property of thermo-responsive end-grafted poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) polymer brushes on well-shaped gold-silica nanostructures is intended to be investigated for controlled protein transportation via extinction spectroscopy and fluorescence microscopy methods below and above PNIPAM lower critical solution temperature (LCST; 32 °C in water). 3. Theoretical and Experimental Studies of Polymer Adsorption and Polymer Mediated Interactions
Sammanfattning : Polyelectrolyte adsorption and polymer mediated interactions in different colloidal polymer systems have been studied in this work. Theoretical methods and experimental techniques are combined, in order to obtain more general reliable results, as well as a deep understanding of the molecular mechanisms that are responsible for the observed behaviors. 4. Polymer-Mediated Interactions and Phase Behaviour of Polymer-Particle Dispersions
Sammanfattning : Interactions between colloidal particles can be modelled by particles grafted with polymers. In this work, structural and physical properties of colloids are investigated under variation of parameters such as pH, ionic strength, and temperature, where aggregation and cluster formation can be monitored in aqueous solution. 5. Polymer Gels and their Interactions with Ionic Surfactants
Sammanfattning : The response on chemically crosslinked gels and polymer solutions on the addition of ionic surfactants and/or addition of salt at different temperatures have been studied. All polymers studied are water soluble and slightly hydrophobic or hydrophobically modified. LÄS MER
