21. Laminin G Domains, their Receptors, and Activation of Intracellular Pathways
Sammanfattning : Basement membranes are sheet like structures underlying epithelial, endothelial, adipocytes, muscle and peripheral nerve cells. Laminins are an important family of basement membrane proteins implicated in various biological functions through their interactions with cell surface receptors. Laminins are trimers composed of a, b and g chains. LÄS MER

23. Effects of antipsychotics on GABA neurons in the basal ganglia of the rat
Sammanfattning : Antipsychotics are used in the treatment of psychosis and, based on their propensities to induce extrapyramidal side effects (EPS), are divided into typical (haloperidol) and atypical (clozapine) subtypes. The incidence of EPS, arises from an imbalance in the neurotransmission between two majorGABAergic pathways of the basal ganglia that connect the striatum directly to the entopeduncular nucleus (EP) and the substantia nigra reticulata or indirectly via the globus pallidus and the subthalamic nucleus. 24. Etiology and early detection of pancreatic cancer
Sammanfattning : Pancreatic cancer is one of the most dismal malignancies. Although its incidence and prevalence are relatively low, the disease burden is still an important health issue, especially in terms of mortality. Primary prevention is of utmost importance for such detrimental disease, however, the underlying etiology remains largely unknown. LÄS MER
25. Intracellular signaling of phosphorylated insitol compounds : a study in pancreatic beta-cells and hippocampal neurons
Sammanfattning : The family of phosphorylated inositol compounds consists of soluble cytosolic inositol phosphates and insoluble inositol phospholipids, localized in cellular membranes and the nuclear matrix. Although inositol phospholipids only account for 5-10% of total plasma membrane lipids, these compounds and their inositol phosphate derivatives play an important role in a broad range of cellular processes including intracellular Ca 2+ signalling, ion channel regulation, vesicle trafficking, both exo- and endocytosis, cell growth and apoptosis.
