  1. 21. Colour – A Reliable Quality-Control Tool for Industrial Thermowood® Production

    Författare :Petteri Torniainen; Dennis Jones; Olov Karlsson; Dick Sandberg; Henrik Veikko Juhani Heräjärvi; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Thermally-modified timber; Thermo-S; Thermo-D; colour Lab; Scots pine; Pinus sylvestris; Norway spruce; Picea abies; quality control; Träteknik; Wood Science and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of the work presented in this doctoral thesis has been to correlate the commercial output of  ThermoWood® process with a pre-defined, quantifiable, non-destructive measurable parameter - colour, and to show the feasibility of measurements to be the essential part of the internal and external quality-control system. Colour is the most evident property changed of thermally-modified timber (TMT). LÄS MER

  2. 22. Some aspects on the effects of dissolved wood components in kraft pulping

    Författare :Ragnar Sjödahl; Mikael E. Lindström; Hasan Jameel; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Delignification; Dissolved wood components; Black liquor; Defibration point; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Sammanfattning : During kraft cooking a significant part of the wood material, especially lignin and hemicelluloses, is degraded and dissolved in the cooking liquor, rendering a broad range of degradation products with different molecular mass and functional groups. The main part of this thesis has been devoted to clarify the role of these dissolved wood components (DWC) during kraft cooking. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Nonlinear modeling of reinforced dowel joints in timber structures : a combined experimental-numerical study

    Författare :Michael Schweigler; Josef Eberhardsteiner; Thomas K. Bader; Thierry Descamps; Vienna University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Technology byts ev till Engineering ; Teknik; Byggteknik; Civil engineering; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Steel dowels are indispensable elements for the design of joints in modern timber structures. Dowels are broadly used because of their flexibility in design and easy assembling on-site, as well as due to their advantageous mechanical behavior. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Characteristics of wood plastic composites based on modified wood : Moisture properties, biological performance and micromorphology

    Författare :Kristoffer Segerholm; Magnus Wålinder; Mark Hughes; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wood plastic composites; WPC; acetylation; thermal modification; furfurylation; moisture sorption; biological durability; UV excimer laser; micromorphology;

    Sammanfattning : Biobased materials made from renewable resources, such as wood, play an important role in the sustainable development of society. One main challenge of biobased building materials is their inherent moisture sensitivity, a major cause for fungal decay, mold growth and dimensional instability, resulting in decreased service life as well as costly maintenance. 5. 25. Dynamic Mechanical Studies of Wood, Paper and some Polymers Subjected to Humidity Changes

    Författare :Reza Ebrahimzadeh Pirshahid; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wood; paper; mechanosorption; hygroscopic polymers; PEO; cellophane; PVAc; PA6; diffusion; dynamic mechanical properties;

    Sammanfattning : The dynamic mechanical response of several hygroscopic materials including wood (Scots pineveneer), paper (unbleached sulphate), cellophane, polyamide 6 (PA6) and poly(vinyl acetate)(PVAc) have been studied especially under conditions of a stepwise varying humidity in the atmosphere surrounding the samples. In all cases the in phase and out of phase components of the force necessary to achieve a given deformation were measured for various oscillation frequencies (from 0. LÄS MER
