  1. 1. Mechanical properties of sound and of deteriorated softwood at different length scales : Poromicromechanical modeling and experimental investigations

    Författare :Thomas K. Bader; Karin Hofstetter; Kristofer Gamstedt; Austria Vienna University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Byggteknik; Civil engineering; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Due to its natural origin and its inherent heterogeneities, mechanical properties of wood are highly anisotropic and show a broad variability, not only between different wood species, but also within a tree. Similar to other biological materials, the wood mi- crostructure is well organized and hierarchically structured from the annual rings visible to the naked eye down to the wood polymers cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin at the nanometer-scale. 2. 2. Investigations on the Serviceability Limit State of Dowel-Type Timber Connections

    Författare :Michael Dorn; de Borst Karin; Vienna University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; timber engineering; dowel-type connection; experiments; simualations; Servieability Limit State; contact behavior; Byggteknik; Civil engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Dowel-type steel-to-timber connections are commonly used to transfer a large range of loads. Although they are simple to produce and assemble, the load-carrying behavior and the local stress and strain distribution within the connection area are highly complex. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Nonlinear modeling of reinforced dowel joints in timber structures : a combined experimental-numerical study

    Författare :Michael Schweigler; Josef Eberhardsteiner; Thomas K. Bader; Thierry Descamps; Vienna University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Technology byts ev till Engineering ; Teknik; Byggteknik; Civil engineering; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Steel dowels are indispensable elements for the design of joints in modern timber structures. Dowels are broadly used because of their flexibility in design and easy assembling on-site, as well as due to their advantageous mechanical behavior. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Barriers to growth and development in small firms

    Författare :Henrik Barth; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Growth; Development; Innovation; Barrier; Small firms; SME;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of the extended summary is to develop the understanding of the existence and reasons behind barriers to growth and development in small firms. More specifically, four questions are addressed: (1) What do we know about the term barrier, how can it be defined? (2) What types of barriers to growth and development have been identified? (3) How can barriers to growth and development be addressed in a framework? and (4) How do the results of the appended papers (Papers I-V) contribute to the research field of barriers to growth and development?A literature review was undertaken to answer the first two questions. 5. 5. On some continuous-time modeling and estimation problems for control and communication

    Författare :Yasir Irshad; Magnus Mossberg; Magnus Jansson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; System Identification; Parameter Estimation; Continuous-time Stochastic Systems; Networked Control Systems; Errors-in-variables Systems; Wireless Channel Modeling; Closed-loop Identification; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The scope of the thesis is to estimate the parameters of continuous-time models used within control and communication from sampled data with high accuracy and in a computationally efficient way.In the thesis, continuous-time models of systems controlled in a networked environment, errors-in-variables systems, stochastic closed-loop systems, and wireless channels are considered.
