6. Digital Image Analysis of Cells : Applications in 2D, 3D and Time
Sammanfattning : Light microscopes are essential research tools in biology and medicine. Cell and tissue staining methods have improved immensely over the years and microscopes are now equipped with digital image acquisition capabilities. The image data produced require development of specialized analysis methods. LÄS MER
7. Computer simulations of condensed phases with icosahedral local order
Sammanfattning : Understanding the fundamental aspects, and the formation mechanisms of glasses remains an outstanding unsolved problem of condensed-matter physics.Glass-formation in simple atomic systems is generally associated with the icosahedral local order. LÄS MER
8. Hilbert space frames and bases : a comparison of Gabor and wavelet frames and applications to multicarrier digital communications
Sammanfattning : Several signal processing applications today are based on the use of different transforms. The signals under consideration are written as a linear combination (or series) of some predefined set of functions. Traditionally, orthogonal bases have been used for this purpose, for example, in the discrete Fourier transform. LÄS MER
9. The prospects for the East African Monetary Union : An empirical analysis
Sammanfattning : This thesis operationalizes the theory of optimum currency areas, which describes the preconditions (criteria) that countries must fulfill prior to forming a monetary union. In light of the different dimensions of the theory that are examined, the empirical findings from the four papers in this thesis seem to favor forming a monetary union among East African Community (EAC) partner states. 10. Multivariate Measurements and Chemical Imaging of Organic Compounds
Sammanfattning : Chemical imaging is an emerging analytical technique, based on the interplay between, most often, spectroscopic measurements and advanced evaluation methodology. With this we can study the distribution of chemical compounds in different compartments, such as individual cells and pharmaceutical tablets. LÄS MER
