1. Digital Image Analysis of Cells : Applications in 2D, 3D and Time
Sammanfattning : Light microscopes are essential research tools in biology and medicine. Cell and tissue staining methods have improved immensely over the years and microscopes are now equipped with digital image acquisition capabilities. The image data produced require development of specialized analysis methods. LÄS MER
2. Characterization of ankyrin repeat domain 54 (ANKRD54) and its role on the regulation and subcellular localization of Bruton’s tyrosine kinase (BTK)
Sammanfattning : Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) is an important cytoplasmic signaling protein, where the kinase activity plays a pivotal role in the development, proliferation and differentiation of B-cell lineages. Ankyrin repeat domain 54 (ANKRD54) is a nuclear-resident adaptor protein, where the ankyrin domain repeats are critical for specific protein-protein interaction, while the NLS and NES motifs control the nucleo-cytoplasmic shuttling ability. 3. The Structure-Function Relationship and Evolution of Deoxyribonucleoside Kinases
Sammanfattning : The synthesis of deoxyribonucleoside triphosphates (dNTPs), building blocks of DNA, can be achieved by two different pathways in the cell. One is called de novo synthesis and the other is known as salvage pathway. The de novo pathway involves synthesis of dNTPs by utilizing basic molecules like sugars, amino acids, CO2, NH3, etc. LÄS MER
4. Image Analysis Methods and Tools for Digital Histopathology Applications Relevant to Breast Cancer Diagnosis
Sammanfattning : In 2012, more than 1.6 million new cases of breast cancer were diagnosed and about half a million women died of breast cancer. The incidence has increased in the developing world. The mortality, however, has decreased. LÄS MER
5. Proximity Ligation as a Universal Protein Detection Tool
Sammanfattning : Among the great challenges in biology are the precise quantification of specific sets of proteins and analyses of their patterns of interaction on a much larger scale than is possible today. This thesis presents a novel protein detection technique - proximity ligation - and reports the development and application of a nucleic acid amplification technique, RCA.
