11. An inductive approach to the modeling of lake water quality in dimictic, glacial/boreal lakes
Sammanfattning : To explore the interaction between elements of the watershed and lake water quality, a database large enough to approximate the generic population of dimictic, glacial/boreal lakes is assembled and analyzed with multivariate statistical methods in an inductive top-down approach. Utilizing the analytical capabilities of geographical information systems, the spatially distributed characteristics of land cover, soil and bedrock elements are identified and parameterized with respect to element morphology and hydrology. 12. Modelling Hydrological and Hydrodynamic Processes in Lake Tana Basin, Ethiopia
Sammanfattning : Lake Tana Basin is of significant importance to Ethiopia concerning water resources aspects and the ecological balance of the area. The growing high demands in utilizing the high potentials of water resource of the Lake to its maximal limit, pictures a disturbing future for the Lake. LÄS MER
13. Quantitative microscopy of coating uniformity
Sammanfattning : Print quality demands for coated papers are steadily growing, and achieving coating uniformity is crucial for high image sharpness, colour fidelity, and print uniformity. Coating uniformity may be divided into two scales: coating thickness uniformity and coating microstructure uniformity, the latter of which includes pigment, pore and binder distributions within the coating layer. 14. Crop and weed discrimination using computer vision
Sammanfattning : The thesis is concerned with computer vision in ecological and precision agriculture aiming to identify crops and weeds in images of crop rows. The identification of plants can be done by extracting the plants in the image and classifying them as a crop or weed depending on the shape and color. LÄS MER
15. On-farm agrohydrological analysis of the Sahelian yield crisis : rainfall partitioning, soil nutrients and water use efficiency of pearl millet
Sammanfattning : Sub-Saharan Africa is presently experiencing a steadily aggravated food security crisis. This crisis is a result of a rapidly growing population combined with insignificant yield increases of the major cereal crops maize, millet and sorghum, during the last decades. LÄS MER
