  1. 1. Heat shock proteins as vaccine adjuvants

    Författare :Khaleda Rahman Qazi; Carmen Fernández; Qijun Chen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heat shock protein; vaccine; adjuvant; BCG; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : New efficient vaccines against infectious diseases are in demand. Some important factors impeding the vaccine development are the poor immunogenicity and the MHC restriction of the immune responses to a number of antigens. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Influenza is one of the major viral diseases affecting humans and it is responsible for three to five million cases of severe illness and about 250.000 to 500.000 deaths each year worldwide. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Characterisation of Neisseria meningitidis from a virulence and immunogenic perspective that includes variations in novel vaccine antigens

    Författare :Susanne Jacobsson; Hans Fredlund; Per Olcén; Paula Mölling; Elisabeth Wedege; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Neisseria meningitidis; meningococcal disease; risk factors; vaccine; genome-derived neisserial antigens GNA ; polymerase chain reaction PCR ; sequencing; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicin; Medicine; Biomedicin; Biomedicine;

    Sammanfattning : Neisseria meningitidis, also referred to as meningococcus, is a Gram-negative diplococcal bacterium best known as an important cause of meningitis and septicaemia worldwide. Meningococcal disease is a rare but life-threatening illness that may progress to death despite optimal medical care including appropriate antibiotic therapy. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Studies on new tuberculosis vaccine candidates in animal models

    Författare :Melles Haile; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is a major health problem in many countries, especially in low income countries. Globally, TB causes more than 2 million human deaths annually and 1/5 of all adult deaths in developing countries. WHO estimates that one third of the world's population i.e. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Evaluation of vaccine candidates for HIV prevention in Tanzania

    Författare :Frank Msafiri; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: This thesis describes the capability of an HIV-1 DNA and HIV-1 modified vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA) prime boost vaccination strategy to elicit immune responses known to correlate with reduced risk of HIV infection. Additionally, it describes the confounding effect of vaccine-induced HIV antibodies on the performance of HIV testing algorithms in sub-Saharan Africa, as well as the recruitment and preparation of a cohort of female sex workers (FSW) for potential participation in an HIV vaccine efficacy trial.
