1. The origin and fate of sediment organic carbon in tropical reservoirs
Sammanfattning : Recently, the construction of reservoirs has boomed, particularly in the tropics, but the impact of reservoirs on the global carbon cycle is not evident. Reservoirs accumulate sediments that simultaneously bury organic carbon (OC) and thus act as a C sink, and also produce methane (CH4) and thus emit a strong greenhouse gas. LÄS MER
2. Greenhouse gas emission from tropical reservoirs : Spatial and temporal dynamics
Sammanfattning : The emission of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) from reservoirs has been estimated to make up for about 1.3% of the global anthropogenic greenhouse gas emission. The impoundment of a river leads to the accumulation of sediment that is brought in from inflowing rivers, and the sediment organic matter is degraded to CH4 and CO2. LÄS MER
3. Immunity and immunological surveillance for malaria elimination in tropical islands
Sammanfattning : Malaria remains one of the most significant global public health challenges. Nearly half of the world’s population remains at risk, largely in African Region. In the past decade, considerable progress has been made in the global fight to control and eliminate malaria. LÄS MER
4. Diurnal variation of stratospheric short-lived species
Sammanfattning : Diurnal variation of stratospheric short-lived speciesMaryam KhosraviChalmers University of TechnologyDepartment of Earth and Space SciencesAbstractThe depletion of ozone in the stratosphere has a direct impact on the amount of ultravioletradiation reaching the Earth’s surface. The ozone abundance and distributionis controlled by the photo-chemical reactions and catalytic cycles involving halogens(chlorine and bromine), odd hydrogen and odd nitrogen species as well as by atmospherictransport. 5. An epidemiological and virological study on mosquito-borne flavivirus transmission : The role of urban livestock keeping and the risk for mosquito-borne zoonotic diseases in humans in Hanoi city, Vietnam
Sammanfattning : Mosquito-borne diseases (MBDs), which are transmitted by the bite of mosquitoes to humans, are causing high morbidity and mortality worldwide and are emerging in many tropical cities. Urban livestock keeping is still growing in cities around the world, which can itself contribute to increasing the mosquito populations. LÄS MER
