  1. 11. How do metamorphic fluids move through rocks? : An investigation of timescales, infiltration mechanisms and mineralogical controls

    Författare :Barbara I. Kleine; Alasdair D. L. Skelton; John C. Schumacher; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metamorphic fluid flow; fluid-rock interaction; fluid infiltration mechanisms; fluid flux rates; thermodynamic modeling; reaction front propagation; fluid flux calculation; Geology; geologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to provide a better understanding of the role of mountain building in the carbon cycle. The amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere due to metamorphic processes is largely unknown. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Environmental, health and safety assessment of phase-change solvents for post combustion CO2 capture

    Författare :Gulnara Shavalieva; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; phase-change solvents; carbon capture; CAMD; LCA; EHS;

    Sammanfattning : A novel class of solvents exhibiting liquid-liquid phase separation upon reaction with CO2 and/or change in temperature, promises significant reduction of energy requirement of the post combustion capture by chemical absorption. However, proceeding to a large-scale application of novel materials requires holistic evaluation of the aspects related to human health, safety, and environmental impacts currently missing for phase-change solvent alternatives. 3. 13. Towards Prospective Exposure Modeling of Nanoparticles - Applying Particle Flow Analysis and Kinetic Exposure Modeling for the Cases of TiO2 and Ag Nanoparticles

    Författare :Rickard Arvidsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; exposure modeling; environmental risk assessment; nanoparticles; Particle flow analysis PFA ;

    Sammanfattning : The claims regarding the usefulness of nanoparticles (NPs) in different applications, such as wound dressings, solar cells and soil remediation, has been accompanied by concern that NPs may also pose risks to humans and to the environment. Considering the past century, when many substances later shown to cause unacceptable damage were manufactured in large amounts, there are reasons to thoroughly assess the risks of these NPs. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Assessment of bio-based fuel ash effects on magnesia refractory materials in quicklime production kilns

    Författare :Naresh Kumar Wagri; Britt M. Andersson; Markus Carlborg; Markus Broström; Matias Eriksson; Bengt-Johan Skrifvars; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Refractory corrosion; ash slag intrusion; lime kiln; MgO refractory; coal ash; olive pomace ash; biomass fuel; crushing strength; potassium K ; silicon Si .; Materials Science; materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Limestone is calcined into quicklime in lime kilns at temperatures above 1000°C. Heat is supplied through combustion inside the kilns, which are insulated with a lining of refractory bricks to mitigate heat loss and to protect the kiln from the hot, chemically aggressive, and mechanically abrasive environment. 5. 15. Thermodynamic Studies of the Fe-Pt System and “FeO”-Containing Slags for Application Towards Ladle Refining

    Författare :Patrik Fredriksson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Thermodynamics; Activity; Galvanic cell; Calorimetry; Gas equilibration technique; Iron-platinum alloys; FeO; Slags; Modelling; Ladle;

    Sammanfattning : In the present work, the thermodynamic activites of ironoxide, denoted as "FeO" in the slag systems Al2O3-"FeO", CaO-"FeO", "FeO"-SiO2, Al2O3-"FeO"-SiO2, CaO-"FeO"-SiO2and "FeO"-MgO-SiO2were investigated by employing the gasequilibration technique at steelmaking temperatures. Thestrategy was to expose the molten slag mixtures kept inplatinum crucibles for an oxygen potential, determined by aCO/CO2-ratio. LÄS MER
