  1. 36. Assessing Sustainability and Guiding Development towards More Sustainable Products

    Författare :Gunilla Clancy; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; action competence; early-stage product development; team learning; wood-based material; role of designer; semi-structured interview; ecolabels; management systems; participatory action research; sustainability assessment;

    Sammanfattning : Companies need to develop more sustainable products that fit into future more sustainable markets. For this reason, the integration of sustainability considerations is needed in the early stages of product development, where a major part of the sustainability performance of a final product is determined. 2. 37. Life performance assessment methodologies for combined solar energy technologies : a case study on system parts in nordic climates

    Författare :Bojan Stojanovic; Christer Sjöström; Björn Karlsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; life performance; assessment; combined solar energy technologies; degradation; component and system performance; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik; Materials science;

    Sammanfattning : The main questions concerning energy technologies today are their economical and environmental impacts. These entities are (at the present) assessed on the basis that operations proceed as newly installed/designed systems, during an assumed working life period. LÄS MER

  3. 38. Road Ecology for Environmental Assessment

    Författare :Mårten Karlson; Berit Balfors; Ulla Mörtberg; Jo Treweek; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Roads; Railways; Biodiversity; Environmental Assessment; GIS; Decision Support; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Transport infrastructure is closely linked to several politically relevant sustainability issues, and since 1985 a formalized environmental assessment process is linked to planning and construction of new roads and railways in the EU (EU directives 85/337/EEC and 2001/42). The aim of the environmental assessment process is to think in advance; to identify, predict and evaluate significant environmental changes resulting from a proposed activity, in order to adjust the proposed activity accordingly and to avoid unnecessary and unexpected consequences. 4. 39. Decision support for sustainable water security

    Författare :Karin Sjöstrand; Dale Whittington; RISE; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; risk assessment; decision support; water security; water availability; multi-criteria decision analysis; water scarcity; sustainability; drinking water supply; cost-benefit analysis; marginal abatement cost curves;

    Sammanfattning : Society’s large dependence on water, in combination with climate, socio-economic and demographic changes, places a massive pressure on our freshwater resources. As a result, water crisis, defined as a significant decline in the available quality and quantity of freshwater, is now considered to be among the most critical global risks to society. LÄS MER

  5. 40. Ecosystem services - a tool in sustainable landscape management

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I have worked with the ambition of approaching the question of how human-ecology interaction can be articulated in a way that is useful as a vector for societal transformation. The thesis addresses the difficult question of how the ecosystem service framework may help to address mismatches between social and ecological systems. LÄS MER
