6. Impacts of climate change on surface hydrology in the source region of the Yellow River
Sammanfattning : The source region of the Yellow River contributes about 35% of the total water yield in the Yellow River basin playing an important role for meeting the downstream water resources requirements. The declining water availability caused by climate change in the source region of the Yellow River is expected to have severe repercussions for the 110 million basin inhabitants in terms of water resources affecting agricultural productivity, municipal, and industrial water supply. 7. Global Climatology and Regional Modeling of Coastal Low-Level Jets
Sammanfattning : Localized coast-parallel wind-speed maxima at low altitude, known as coastal low-level jets (CLLJs) have important ramifications to the coastal climate and a number of human activities. This thesis documents the existence of the CLLJs around the globe including their mesoscale structure, dynamics and spatio-temporal variability. LÄS MER
8. Spatiotemporal climate and atmospheric circulation variability in Asia inferred from tree rings
Sammanfattning : Observed 20th century warming trends accompanied by more frequent weather extremes such as droughts or intense rainfall events have consequences for societies and environments alike. In Asia, where the majority of the population depend on agricultural productivity, recent climate change is likely to increase societal hardships. LÄS MER
9. Tracing water transport pathways in the coupled ocean-atmosphere system
Sammanfattning : Water is the most precious substance on the Earth and thus it is important to know how it moves around and is recycled. This knowledge will be useful to formulate educated future strategies about water usage in society and also to understand the near-surface salinity contrasts in the world ocean. 10. Holocene environmental changes and climate variability in the Eastern Mediterranean : Multiproxy sediment records from the Peloponnese peninsula, SW Greece
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents multiproxy reconstructions of the mid to late Holocene climate and environmental changes in the Peloponnese peninsula, SW Greece. The combined dataset consists of diatom, biomarker and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) elemental data in radiocarbon-dated sediment cores taken from the Agios Floros fen and the Gialova Lagoon in SW Peloponnese and the Ancient Lake Lerna in NE Peloponnese.
