  1. 1. Effects of Deep Breathing Exercises after Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

    Författare :Elisabeth Westerdahl; Arne Tenling; Göran Hedenstierna; Birgitta Lindmark; Anders Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical therapy; atelectasis; breathing exercises; coronary artery bypass; computed tomography; physiotherapy; postoperative care; postoperative complications; respiratory function tests; thoracic surgery; Sjukgymnastik; Physiotherapy; Sjukgymnastik fysioterapi;

    Sammanfattning : Deep breathing exercises are widely used in the postoperative care to prevent or reduce pulmonary complications, but no scientific evidence for the efficacy has been found after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery. The aim of the thesis was to describe postoperative pulmonary function and to evaluate the efficacy of deep breathing exercises performed with or without a blow bottle device for positive expiratory pressure (PEP) 10 cmH2O or an inspiratory resistance-positive expiratory pressure (IR-PEP) mask with an inspiratory pressure of -5 cmH2O and an expiratory pressure of +10 to +15 cmH2O. 2. 2. Andning och träning i medveten närvaro för personer med hjärtsvikt - studier av erfarenheter och effekter på symtom och tecken, välbefinnande och hälsa

    Författare :Jonna Norman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heart failure; mindfulness-based intervention MBI ; breathlessness; dyspnea; slow breathing; fatigue; well-being; general health; patient reported outcome measures PROM ; qualitative content analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Despite care and treatment, many patients with heart failure (HF) are limited by symptoms, such as shortness of breath (SOB) and fatigue, that is difficult to treat. Research shows that slow breathing and mindfulness-based interventions (MBI) have the potential to reduce stress, improve symptoms and physical functioning, reduce anxiety and depression, and improve quality of life. 3. 3. Sleep and Sleep-disordered Breathing in Women : Associations with Daytime Symptoms and Metabolism

    Författare :Jenny Theorell-Haglöw; Eva Lindberg; Christer Janson; Christian Berne; Torbjörn Åkerstedt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is characterized by snoring, apneas and excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS). Although commonly present in OSA, factors relating to daytime sleepiness are not fully elucidated. OSA is associated with obesity and with cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus and the metabolic syndrome. LÄS MER

  4. 4. A novel drug and device in anesthesia : with focus on breathing and upper airway physiology

    Författare :Åse Lodenius; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Anesthesia-related airway complications are associated with hypoxia due to inability to secure or maintain the airway with subsequent insufficient ventilation and gas exchange. This thesis has explored the impact on airway integrity and respiratory regulation of two anesthetic compounds frequently used for sedation and a novel principle for oxygenation in patients at risk of hypoxia, in order to further improve patient safety during sedation and induction of anesthesia. 5. 5. Strongly non-linear magnetization dynamics in nano-structures: perturbations, multi-mode generation, and topological droplets

    Författare :Ezio Iacocca; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Spin torque oscillators; Spintronics; Spintronics;

    Sammanfattning : Spin torque oscillators (STOs) are magnetic nano-devices in which strongly non-linear magnetodynamic phenomena can be excited by current. In this thesis, we study some of these phenomena by means of micromagnetic simulations, analytical calculations, and electrical characterization. Three main subjects are discussed: 1. LÄS MER
