  1. 16. Mutations and molecular signatures in human melanoma

    Författare :Braslav Jovanovic; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cutaneous melanoma is a disease which results from a complex mixture of various extrinsic and intrinsic factors, with some major players still unknown. Although primary tumors are highly curable with surgical excision, particularly those which are non-ulcerated and have a thickness of less than 1 mm, poor survival rates are observed in advanced disease. 2. 17. Geochemical and sedimentary signatures of Phanerozoic events

    Författare :Jane Wigforss-Lange; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; geokemi; Sedimentology; Petrology; mineralogy; geochemistry; Petrologi; mineralogi; Carbon and oxygen isotopes; Jurassic-Cretaceous boundary; K-T boundary; Late Silurian; Events; Trace elements; Sedimentologi;

    Sammanfattning : Geological and biological catastrophic events have occurred repeatedly in the Earth's history, leaving traces in the global stratigraphical record in the form of sedimentary features, geochemical anomalies and biotic turnovers. This thesis focuses on the sedimentological and geochemical signatures of several key events in the Phanerozoic stratigraphical record, and aims to interpret the different signals and the causal mechanisms behind each of these events. 3. 18. Deformation behaviour and chemical signatures of anorthosites: : Examples from southern West Greenland and south-central Sweden

    Författare :Henrik Svahnberg; Sandra Piazolo; Anders Scherstén; Holger Stünitz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; anorthosite; plagioclase; deformation; strain localisation; fluid-rock interaction; electron backscatter diffraction EBSD ; Solid earth geology and petrology; Berggrundsgeologi och petrologi; Mineralogy; Petrology and Geochemistry; mineralogi; petrologi och geokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Plagioclase is the most abundant mineral in the lower crust and it is thus important to constrain the behaviour of plagioclase during deformation. Anorthosites, which are plagioclase-rich rocks, are common in Archaean cratons but their origin and rheological importance is still debated. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Towards understanding stable isotope signatures in stressed systems

    Författare :Caroline Ek; Elena Gorokhova; Katrine Borgå; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Stable isotope analysis; trophic position; chemical exposure; oxidative stress; Daphnia magna; Gammarus spp.; Limecola balthica; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Stable isotope analysis (SIA) is a valuable tool in ecotoxicology because δ13C and δ15N may provide insights into the trophic transfer of contaminants in a food web. The relationship between a species’ trophic position (TP, determined from δ15N) and internal concentration of biomagnifying contaminants can be established and used for regulatory purposes. LÄS MER

  5. 20. The genomic signatures of adaptive evolution in Populus

    Författare :Jing Wang; Pär Ingvarsson; Barbara Mable; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Populus; adaptive evolution; natural selection; genomic diversity and divergence; recombination; Next-generation sequencing; local adaptation;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding the genetic basis of adaptive evolution, and how natural selection has shaped patterns of polymorphism and divergence within and between species are enduring goals of evolutionary genetics. In this thesis, I used whole genome re-sequencing data to characterize the genomic signatures of natural selection along different evolutionary timescales in three Populus species: Populus tremula, P.
