1. Accumulation and Composition of Gully Pot Sediments under Varying Anthropogenic Activities
Sammanfattning : Gully pots (GPs) are an integral urban drainage component, contributing to conveying runoff from urban surfaces and reducing the load of solids and associated contaminants entering downstream piped systems and receiving waters. Over time, the silting-up of GPs impairs their hydraulic performance, increasing the risk of GP blockage-induced flood events and reducing solids retention performance. LÄS MER
2. Diatom-rich sediment formation in lakes
Sammanfattning : Unicellular photosynthetic golden algae called diatoms are one of the most abundant silicifying organisms. Diatoms take up silicon and build their frustules, in the form of biogenic silica (BSi), which have high preservation potential, and thus are found in sediments. LÄS MER
3. Waterborne sediment and pollutant transport into lakes and accumulation in lake sediments
Sammanfattning : The general objective of this thesis is to contribute to the knowledge of the transport of sediments and pollutants from catchments to downstream water recipient systems and their accumulation in these systems, such as lakes and lake sediments. One part of the thesis studies the importance of drainage reach morphology and water flow for the phosphorous (P) transport and retention in the reaches, and the main controlling processes of the P retention in the reach sediments. 5. Sediment sources and transport pathways, Lithuanian coastal zone
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents an investigation of recent sediments of the Lithuanian coastal zone, SE Baltic Sea. The main focus is upon the detailed documentation of grain size and mineralogy and the development of analytical methods using these essential and most common sediment parameters. LÄS MER
