1. UHV-CVD growth of Ge/Si nanostructures
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on the results concerning the epitaxial growth and characterization of silicon (Si) and germanium (Ge) nanostructures. The growth technique was the Ultra High Vacuum Chemical Vapor Deposition (UHV-CVD) that works in relatively low temperatures and low growth pressures. LÄS MER
2. Alkali Release and Effects on Biomass Thermal Conversion Processes
Sammanfattning : High alkali content is an important feature of biomass, and it has a series of implications for thermal conversion processes. This thesis focuses on the release of alkali during various biomass thermal conversion processes, including biomass pyrolysis, char gasification, co-conversion of different types of biomass, and thermal conversion of biomass mixed with fresh and used bed materials. 3. Ge/high-k Gates for Monolithic 3D Integration
Sammanfattning : Continuous scaling of transistor dimensions has been in the heart of semiconductorindustry for many years. Recently the scaling has been enabled by various performance boosters which resulted in increased processing complexity and cost, forcing the chip manufacturers to look for some alternative solutions. 4. Diatom-rich sediment formation in lakes
Sammanfattning : Unicellular photosynthetic golden algae called diatoms are one of the most abundant silicifying organisms. Diatoms take up silicon and build their frustules, in the form of biogenic silica (BSi), which have high preservation potential, and thus are found in sediments. LÄS MER
5. Near-infrared photodetectors based on Si/SiGe nanostructures
Sammanfattning : Two types of photodetectors containing Ge/Si quantum dots have been fabricated based on materials grown by molecular beam epitaxy and characterized with several experimental techniques. The aim was to study new device architectures with the implementation of Ge nanostructures, in order to obtain high detection efficiency in the near infrared range at room temperature. LÄS MER
