  1. 31. Ion channels and electrical activity in vascular smooth muscle: Effects of calcium store depletion, cholesterol and cholesterol-lowering drugs

    Författare :Andreas Bergdahl; Kärlfysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fysiologi; Physiology; statins; endothelin; cholesterol; caveolae; smooth muscle; TRP; Ca2 channels; SOC;

    Sammanfattning : Smooth muscle cells (SMCs) in the vessel wall contract to regulate blood flow and pressure, a function essential for normal circulation through tissues. On the other hand, migration and proliferation of SMCs are important factors in vascular disease, such as atherosclerosis and restenosis following surgical dilatation. LÄS MER

  2. 32. Phenotypic modulation of vascular smooth muscle in organ culture

    Författare :Anders Lindqvist; Islet cell physiology; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; smooth muscle; proliferation; PDGF; Physiology; energy metabolism; calcium; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Contraction of blood vessels for the regulation of blood flow and pressure is dependent on vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) located in the medial layer of the vascular wall. Adult, differentiated VSMC have a well developed contractile system and a low rate of proliferation. LÄS MER

  3. 33. The role of FPR2/ALX in the vascular wall

    Författare :Marcelo Petri; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; Sweden Stockholm Karolinska Institutet Dept. of Medicine; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular diseases caused by atherosclerosis are a leading cause of mortality worldwide. Inflammation has been described as a key component in the development of atherosclerosis. Lipoxin A4 (LXA4) is a lipid mediator derived from arachidonic acid, which has anti-inflammatory and pro-resolution properties mediated through the FPR2/ALX receptor. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Endothelin and angiotensin II receptors in human coronary arteries and bypass grafts - Alterations in cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Angelica Wackenfors; Lunds universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; vasoconstriction; receptors; cardiovascular disease; human; coronary arteries;

    Sammanfattning : Angiotensin II (Ang II) and endothelin-1 (ET-1) induce strong vasoconstriction via activation of receptors on vascular smooth muscle cells. In this thesis, the contractile Ang II and endothelin receptors were examined in endothelium-denuded human coronary arteries and in bypass grafts (the left internal mammary artery and the saphenous vein), with focus on receptor alterations in cardiovascular disease. 5. 35. Aspects of arterial wall healing : re-endothelialization, intimal hyperplasia and vascular remodeling

    Författare :Samuel Röhl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality in the world. Despite prevention, the need for interventions remains high. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus have an increased cardiovascular burden and are at higher risk of complications following invasive vascular interventions. LÄS MER
