11. PTPs : redox controlled regulators of cell signaling and transformation
Sammanfattning : Protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs) are important redox regulated enzymes that control the tyrosine phosphorylation status in the cell. These studies aimed to increase the understanding on how PTPs are controlled by reversible oxidation in different pathological settings such as hypoxia and restenosis and to which extent oxidized PTPs contribute to certain diseases. 12. Glucose-lowering interventions and risk assessment in patients with coronary heart disease and disturbed glucose metabolism
Sammanfattning : Background: Abnormal glucose regulation (AGR) including impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and diabetes mellitus type 2 (T2DM) are common in patients with stable and unstable coronary artery disease (CAD) and impair their prognosis. Available glucose lowering interventions have not fully succeeded in improving the detrimental prognosis and accurate screening methods and new treatment strategies are needed. LÄS MER
13. Protein tyrosine phosphatases : taking a 'redoxionist' look at PDGFR signaling
Sammanfattning : Protein Tyrosine Phosphatases (PTPs) are oxidized and inactivated by reactive oxygen species (ROS) upon stimulation of a wide range of cell surface receptors, including the platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) receptor (PDGF R). Signaling via this receptor tyrosine kinase stimulates cell proliferation and migration, and it is associated with cancer and cardiovascular diseases. LÄS MER
14. Coronary artery disease and prognosis in relation to cardiovascular risk factors, interventional techniques and systemic atherosclerosis
Sammanfattning : Aim: To evaluate the prognosis associated with location and severity of coronary and systemic atherosclerosis in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) in relation to risk factors and interventional techniques. Methods: The thesis comprised six longitudinal studies based on three patient cohorts: The Swedish Coronary Angiography and Angioplasty Registry, the Västmanland Myocardial Infarction Survey, and the Thrombus Aspiration in ST-Elevation myocardial infarction in Scandinavia study, to evaluate clinical outcome relative to coronary lesion location and severity, extracoronary artery disease (ECAD), intervention techniques, and leisuretime physical inactivity (LTPI). 15. Extracellular matrix-mediated signaling in the regulation of vascular smooth muscle cell phenotype and function
Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality in the world. Even though death rates are today dropping in the developed countries, disability due to the disease is rising worldwide. The major portion of cardiovascular disease associated deaths is due to occlusive atherosclerotic lesions. LÄS MER
