36. Children with symptomatic urinary tract infection in Göteborg 1970-79 followed for two decades
Sammanfattning : Objective: To study a populationbased cohort of subjects, detected after their first known urinary tract infection (UTI) with special focus on: the natural course of vesicoureteral reflux; the prevalence of renal scarring, age at detection and factors of importance for its development; the long term risk of impaired renal function and hypertension. Methods: Analyses of data, prospectively registered during childhood, and an adulthood follow-up investigation evaluating renal function by 51Cr-EDTA clearance and blood pressure by 24-hour ambulatory technique. 37. Renal effects of C-peptide in experimental type-1 diabetes mellitus
Sammanfattning : The incidence and prevalence of diabetic nephropathy are increasing continuously, mainly due to the increase in type-2 diabetes. In contrast, the risk of diabetic nephropathy for the individual patient has decreased considerably in recent decades due to improved glycemic control, successful treatment of hypertension and hyperlipidemia and the use of renin angiotensin system inhibitors, which have protective effects beyond those on blood pressure. 38. The endocrine heart - metabolic actions of atrial natriuretic peptide
Sammanfattning : Abstract The natriuretic peptides (NPs), namely atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and bran natriuretic peptide (BNP), which are secreted from cardiomyocytes in response to cardiac wall stress, play a significant role in the regulation of blood pressure, intravascular volume, and cardiac remodeling. Recently, NPs emerged as hormones with metabolic actions such as inhibition of the renin-angiotensin system and inhibition of inflammation, together with lipolysis and adipose tissue browning. 39. Platelet inhibition and secondary prevention in cardiac surgery patients
Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Background and objective Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is the most common cardiac surgery procedure. Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) reduces the risk for ischaemic events in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) but increases the bleeding risk, both for spontaneous bleedings and procedure-related bleedings for the subset of ACS patients undergoing urgent CABG. 40. The oesophageal mucosa in reflux disease - endoscopic appearance and tissue structure
Sammanfattning : Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) is very common in especially the western world. The cardinal symptoms are heartburn or regurgitations and are caused by the reflux of noxious compounds from the stomach/duodenum to the oesophagus. LÄS MER
