6. Enhancing prediction and causal inference in metabolic dyshomeostasis
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on two globally prevalent diseases: i) non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and ii) type 2 diabetes (T2D), with an overall aim of improving prediction and causal inference in the context of these conditions. Our projects were mainly conducted using IMI DIRECT and UK Biobank datasets including multi-omics data, extensive environmental exposures, and biological intermediates. LÄS MER
7. Nonsuicidal self-injury in adolescence : attempts to improve and develop treatment
Sammanfattning : Nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) and NSSI disorder are common in adolescence and associated with adverse outcomes, including suicide attempts. Detecting vulnerable children and adolescents is essential to decrease the risk of initiation as well as repetition of self-injury. LÄS MER
8. Quality of life and psychological reactions in women on first line chemotherapy for metastatic breast cancer - Correlations to tumour response and predictive factors
Sammanfattning : Background: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is an important endpoint in clinical trials and as an aspect that must be considered in the treatment of patients with metastatic breast cancer. Treatment efficacy and toxicity are important factors for HRQoL, so it is imperative to study the effects of oncological treatment in terms of HRQoL. LÄS MER
9. Using enriched quality register data for health care evaluation : examples from rheumatoid arthritis
Sammanfattning : Swedish registers have for decades successfully been used for medica research, enabling long-term follow-up of large patient cohorts using observational designs. With a tax funded health care system and the use of a personal identity number as a unique identifier, together with national health registers as well as national demographic registers, we have to a relatively low cost the possibility to answer an abundance of research questions in a real-world setting. 10. Neural control of inflammation
Sammanfattning : Pioneering research on neural control of inflammation has paved the way for new and exciting developments in the growing field of bioelectronic medicine. In the past couple of decades, pre-clinical research on the role of the vagus nerve in inflammation and immunity has brought electrical stimulation of select nerves into clinical trials for the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases.
