11. Hydrophobic Interactions in Bioseparation - Applications of Modified Green Fluorescent Protein
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes interactions that are salt-promoted and mainly based on the hydrophobicity of proteins. A series of variants of the green fluorescent protein (GFP) was first constructed by site-directed mutagenesis. Several tags with various properties were then genetically fused to the N-terminus of GFP. LÄS MER
12. Experimental and Theoretical Studies of Cis-Trans Photoisomerizations and Conditions for Effective Catalysis
Sammanfattning : Triplet-sensitized cis-trans photoisomerizations have been investigated both experimentally and theoretically. Mapping of the reaction path for isomerization of 1,4-bis(1-propenyl)benzene (1) on the triplet state energy surface has been done by quantum yield measurements and laser flash photolysis. LÄS MER
13. Molecular Approaches to Photochemical Solar Energy Conversion : Towards Synthetic Catalysts for Water Oxidation and Proton Reduction
Sammanfattning : A molecular system capable of photoinduced water splitting is an attractive approach to solar energy conversion. This thesis deals with the functional characterization of molecular building blocks for the three principal functions of such a molecular system: Photoinduced accumulative charge separation, catalytic water oxidation, and catalytic proton reduction. 14. Computational Materials Design of Medium Mn Steels
Sammanfattning : Medium Mn steels (~ 3–10 mass % Mn), a new category of advanced high strength steels, attracted worldwide research interests recent years due to their excellent mechanical properties and low cost. These steels have fine microstructures and contain large fraction of metastable retained austenite (~ 30 volume %), therefore exhibit excellent strength and elongation. LÄS MER
15. Toughness of Tool Steel
Sammanfattning : Toughness is the ability to resist tensile stresses in the presence of a notch or crack. Sometimes gross cracking of industrial tools, mould or dies, occurs due to insufficient toughness. As the economic consequences of the gross cracking are serious, the toughness of industrial tool material, generally tool steel, is of paramount importance. LÄS MER
