16. Studies on neurotrophins in inflammatory pulmonary diseases
Sammanfattning : Asthma, sarcoidosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are inflammatory pulmonary diseases, all being characterized by tissue inflammation, tissue damage (airway remodeling) and loss of lung function. In order to increase possibilities to find new biomarkers, drug targets and better treatment options for the patients, further research on the underlying mechanisms driving the inflammation and airway remodeling in these diseases are required. 17. On dysregulated inflammation and airway host defense
Sammanfattning : Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and cystic fibrosis (CF) are characterized by dysregulated inflammation of the airways. The increased influx of immune cells and the accumulation of cytokines lead to cell death, tissue destruction and impaired pulmonary function. LÄS MER
18. Models of alveolar remodeling in chronic lung disease
Sammanfattning : Lung function is highly dependent on the structure of the lung parenchyma. Remodeling of the alveolar compartment is a central part of the pathology of chronic lung disease such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). LÄS MER
19. Galectin Inhibitors – Molecular Tools in Biomedical Research and Clinical Implications
Sammanfattning : Galectins are β-galactoside-binding lectins, which are present in both the intracellular and extracellular environments of cells. During the last two decades, galectins have gained increasing interest as drug targets in various diseases, such as chronic inflammation (fibrosis) and cancer, in which galectins have been shown to play important, and sometimes rate-limiting, roles. 20. Immunological markers and clinical characteristics of pulmonary inflammation
Sammanfattning : Interstitial lung diseases (ILD) includes a broad spectrum of disorders affecting the lung parenchyma. Common to these conditions is the exacerbated pulmonary immunological response leading to inflammation, disordered tissue healing, and, in a proportion of patients, chronic pulmonary fibrosis. LÄS MER
