Improvements in voltage and transient stability of a nearby grid, small-signal stability improvement on the power system, frequency control support for the network operation, as well as thetechnical and the economic issues related to the reactive power ancillary service provision, are among the issues covered.     Sammanfattning : This thesis describes how to provide standardized, current based, differential protection for any three-phase power transformer, including phase-shifting transformers with variable phase angle shift and transformers of all construction types and internal on-load tap-changer configurations.     Sammanfattning : This thesis describes a new method of testing power stations with regard to their frequency control behaviour and analyses results obtained using this new method. The test concept is based on that the power station unit to be tested remains synchronized onto its normal strong network, whereas the frequency control behaviour is set up to be that of the conditions if the unit was working on a much smaller network, using a computer based simulator system and feeding simulated control signals to the input of the units frequency control system.
