    Sammanfattning : The blood-brain barrier restricts the access of many compounds, including therapeutic agents, to the brain. Several human studies indicate that nasal administration of hydrophilic compounds, such as peptides, can bypass the blood-brain barrier. Beneficial healtheffects, such as the lowering of blood cholesterol levels and a reduction in the risk of coronary heart disease, are often directly related to cereal β-glucan, one of the major components of dietary fiber found in oat and barley.
