Sammanfattning : The present study evaluated genetic and metabolic factors influencing the risk of acute cerebrovascular disease (CVD) and internal carotid artery stenosis (ICA stenosis) in a Swedish community. Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Panic disorder is a psychiatric disorder characterized by sudden attacks of intense anxiety. It displays a lot of features suggesting that it may be associated with an underlying aberration in the autonomic regulation of heart activity and respiration: i) the attacks are often characterized by respiratory symptoms and symptoms from the heart, ii) the attacks can be elicited by respiratory stimulants, iii) between attacks, patients with panic disorder often display enhanced respiratory variability and reduced heart rate variability, and iv) patients with panic disorder display enhanced prevalence of respiratory disorders and enhanced mortality in cardiovascular disease. 20. Importance of serotonin-related candidate genes for human behaviour
Sammanfattning : Family and twin studies have been consistent in demonstrating that genetic factors are involved in the etiology of most major psychiatric disorders, as well as in various normal personality traits. Mostly due to the efficacy of serotonin-acting drugs, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) and tricyclic antidepressants (TCA), the neurotransmitter serotonin has been implicated in a variety of common psychiatric disorders, including depression, a spectrum of anxiety disorders, and premenstrual dysphoria; moreover, some studies have suggested that also personality is influenced by serotonin.
